Indra and the Aymara
Do you know the feeling when you think; what am I doing and for what? I am one of those that are still concerned about the mother earth, Pachamama as they say in Aymara. Aymara is the language of the Aymara people in the South American Andes. It is a "tribe" that lives since thousands of years, in the Altiplano. Even within their own language they have several ways of speaking it. Among themselves it can be that they don’t understand what the other one is saying because sometimes languages get mixed up with other ones. In the worst case the mother tongue gets lost completely. Let’s hope this stays far away from the Aymara’s. It is people who have it in their blood to do business, for centuries they have been part of the South American silver trail. And let’s not forget, it is people whom will receive you well, maybe a bit from a distance in the beginning but definitely from their heart.
The Aymara have always known how to survive; not only is it very hard to live in the high altitudes of the Altiplano where the weather sometimes shows its extremes but they have been under “foreign” government since about 600 years ago. No real freedom in their path of development always somebody looking over the shoulder not only telling them what to do but on top of that also taking the cream from the milk the moment the cow starts to give. First the Incas came, and when they where beaten, the Spaniards took over and now they decided how the Aymara had to live. And as if that wasn’t enough, at the end of the Spanish conquest, somebody drew a line in the Altiplano and ever since then; what was once one people in and from the Altiplano, since that day they are divided in three different nations, Chile, Bolivia and Peru. They never asked to be divided, they where one, how come that in the last 200 hundred years nobody has thought about uniting them and give back their lands and freedom to them. Have we already forgotten how it used to be over here? Why is nobody interested in giving them a chance to recover their natural development so the village evolutes in the direction it was supposed to be? Is it because that will cut off the possibility to keep robbing from them? Their holy sacred grounds were invaded and the earth had to give in her treasures, many good folks have died for the wealth of the cross and the other foreign conquistador. If all their natural resources would be owned by them selves than that would mean that those who are enriching them selves over the backs of the Aymara would have to find their salvation somewhere else. So? What are we waiting for? Where is the economic build up plan that has been made by the smart scientific people so that this show can be running in lets say another 10 years. Knowing human mankind by now probably there is no plan, as nobody has ever thought that one day the Aymara’s would be knocking on the doors of justice and say; we want our life back. And without any trial even without thinking about it one can say from his heart; yeah, it is true, it is their land and they would be crazy if they wouldn’t claim their earthly human rights to be able to govern their own soils again.
